Toutarou is a very eager to please dog who works for a smile with the people he knows, but he was not socialized extensively as a puppy and wound up aloof at best with strangers and reactive with other dogs. He has produced happy personalities in his puppies thus far.

Toutarou [toe-ta-row] is named for the Japanese hero Momotaro, who fought the fierce oni who raided his land and befriended a host of useful friends along the way. He is placed in a co-own home in Oregon. In contrast and comparison, this Toutarou's friends are few, but he is fiercely loyal to them. He is more suspicious of strangers than any of my other Kishu Ken, but this quality is not entirely unwelcome by his co-owners, who hike and backpack and adventure with him often.
Toutarou was our first import from Japan and has a tendency to throw his masculine head and strong expression in his puppies. Toutarou has since gone into a "soft retirement" but is still intact for the time being.
