Akiyama no Roushya is a not-for-profit endeavor, meaning any money that comes in for the kennel goes right back into the dogs. Our goal is to breed puppies and dogs that conform to the most authentic and honored standard established by the Nihon Ken Hozonkai, reflected in the  National Kishu Club standard for the American Kennel Club. Akiyama no Roushya is based in Oregon in the northwestern United States but our co-owners and guardian homes may be all over the USA and Canada. Our dogs are part of my family. They live indoors with us, go camping, hiking, biking, and enjoy many other adventures.

The mission:
  • To preserve and maintain the Kishu Ken and Shikoku Ken's breed's type, temperament, and population.
  • To produce the healthiest, soundest dogs possible with a focus on genetic diversity in the USA and beyond.
  • To improve upon available breed information by collaboration, health testing, and pursuing any endeavor that will contribute to the overall breed in a productive way.

At Akiyama no Roushya we believe that these hounds are intelligent problem-solvers and always need a job to do. As we do not hunt boar and as one of the goals of this program is to maintain and preserve the working temperament these breeds have, our dogs will always be involved in an activity that utilizes their instincts and intelligence while fulfilling their need for a job. More information for which outlets each dog has to prove themselves will be detailed in their individual pages.
