I've been looking into the prospect of using the Kishu for Nutria removal/hunting here in Oregon. Nutria are a species native to South America. A relative of the guinea pig and capybara, they are also an invasive species that thrive in the Willamette River Valley since their introduction. Nutria tend to be destructive in their feeding and burrowing habits and are capable of massive damage to wetlands, so I thought it would be a good use of the dogs' skills and a benefit to conservation to help remove pest populations in the area.
I am currently working with a small group of people to prepare for my first outing with the dogs. I suspect it will be something they enjoy and something positive we can do for the community - so I'm very excited! With any luck, I'll have more updates regarding this soon!
