Nami, Fionna, and I attended the AKC's Meet the Breeds at Westminster on Saturday, the 14th. We were invited to come along by Carleen Newman with the American Kishu Registry/Kishu Ken-nel to have the girls put on a good show for the crowds.
It was a very taxing event - over-crowded, in my opinion, and very loud. I knew Nami would do well, but I didn't know how Fionna would handle such large crowds. Both of the girls did VERY well and won a lot of friends. It was, overall, a lot of work and terribly exhausting, but a wonderful opportunity to get the breed some much-needed exposure. We had 3 total breed representatives, all female. It would have been nicer to have 4 or 5 and have some males there, but I think we did really well with what we had and it was a step forward into the future for the breed. I'm sure there will be new Kishu Ken owners and enthusiasts in the near-ish future based solely on their experience with the breed at this event.
