On 3/28 I said goodbye to Fionna long before I was ready to. I've talked about the event in detail and Fionna herself quite a lot on my social media so I don't want to rehash everything here (you may visit her page or my post on my kennel's Facebook to see what happened.)
This has been an exceptionally difficult loss for me. Fionna is the first dog to pass away from any of my litters (discounting her two brothers who passed away as young puppies) and the first dog I've seen from birth to death. Fionna was still fairly young and to say I'm devastated is an understatement. As a direct result, I have closed my Kishu Ken waitlist for the time being while I gather my thoughts and decide where I want to go and how I want to handle this as a breeder and a dog owner. We have two upcoming litters which have waiting homes for all anticipated puppies. I am thankful to know Fionna has 15 beautiful puppies out in the world, some of which I know will go on to pass on her great qualities, and that her illness was not genetic as far as we understand at this time. Thank you for understanding.
